On a lazy Saturday afternoon trip to the library, I snagged one of my TBRs, picked up a nonfiction title that I’d been curious about, and found two books that are new to me.

Slow Productivity by Cal Newport
Productivity expert Cal Newport’s latest book explores how our definition of productivity is broken and provides suggestions for a more humane and meaningful way to prioritize our time, balance our work, and pursue accomplishment. This book was not on my radar, but I’m all for accomplishment without burnout as the cover promises, so I thought I’d give it a try.
Glossy by Marisa Meltzer
Glossy tells the story of the growth of the cult cosmetics brand Glossier and its founder Emily Weiss. I don’t know much about her ambition and rise to success, but I do know that there are Balm dotcom tubes scattered all over my house and car and my daughters love the brand so much that we made a pilgrimage to the Glossier shop when we were in Los Angeles. I always enjoy reading about successful businesses, and reading about a female founder and the beauty industry makes it even better.
The City and its Uncertain Walls by Haruki Murakami
It’s been a long time since I read a Murakmi book and this was on my to-read list, so I was happy to snag it at the library! Per the description, it’s “an ode to books and to the libraries that house them” – so it sounds right up my alley.
This Must be the Place by Maggie O’Farrell
I wasn’t familiar with Maggie O’Farrell until I read and loved Hamnet, her story of Shakespeare’s unusual and strong wife Agnes. I followed that with The Marriage Portrait, about a young Italian woman adjusting to life at court after her sudden marriage to a duke during the Italian Renaissance. After that, I was hooked and willing to read anything she has written. I hadn’t heard of This Must be the Place, but the story of a secret from a man’s past coming back to threaten his peaceful life and marriage sounds intriguing.
